A neck lift can not stop this ageing process. It can improve the most visible signs of ageing by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your neck.
A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery that was designed to help the surgeon in order to improve the patient’s sagging skin, extra fat or loose muscles underneath the chin that connects to the neck region. The appearance of the neck area sometimes looks like a turkey-waddle or double-chin that may result from aging, weight loss or heredity.
The neck is one of the first areas that show signs of aging, even with people who have had weight loss may have a side effect of having extra loose skin from loss of elasticity. Neck lift surgery is often referenced as a chin or neck liposuction, in which the surgeon sometimes need to eliminate the extra fat, tightens the loose and sagging skin and often combines the procedure with a lower facelift surgery and carried out as a one-operation process for complete harmony. chin implant surgery is combined with neck lift surgery about 30 percent of the time to achieve total neck and facial harmony and balance.
Candidacy
As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the Sun and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Some people develop wrinkling and Sun damage in their face and neck. Some people seem to lose facial fat, while others accumulate fat in the neck and maintain good skin tone. Others may develop more exaggerated signs of ageing in their neck.
A neck lift can not stop this ageing process. It can improve the most visible signs of ageing by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your neck. A neck lift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a face lift, forehead lift, under chin liposuction, or eyelid cosmetic surgery.
The best candidates for a neck lift (necklift)
The best candidate for a neck lift is a man or woman whose neck has begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.
A neck lift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self-confidence in the process. But it can't give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with the plastic surgeon.
Preparation
You should come to the operation without make-up. Pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpirin, Aspirin, and Anopyrin etc.) should not be used for 3 weeks before the neck lift cosmetic surgery, as they decrease the clotting time of blood.
If you are a smoker you are advised to stop smoking or at least to cut down on cigarettes. Smoking slows down the recovery process and it can also increase a risk of complications. Smoking significantly reduces your body's superficial circulation and vascularity. This means difficulty in bringing much needed oxygen to your tissues for proper healing.
Operation
Neck lift rejuvenation can last several hours and is performed with a combination of general (intravenous) anaesthesia and local anaesthesia (a so called neurolepanaesthesia). If endoscopic surgery is performed only small incisions are placed underneath the chin. This way the surgeon tightens the neck muscles.
Often the plastic surgeon performs liposuction, when he uses little straw-like cannulas to suction the fat away. If you have significant excess skin a neck lift may be the best approach. The skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed. The incisions are hidden behind the ears.
Scars take 9 to 18 months to fully mature, gradually they became smoother and the color will change from purple to pink and whitish. After making the incisions the surgeon lifts and separates the fat and skin from the underlying muscles. The plastic surgeon has to lift enough to ensure that when the skin is tightened all creases and folds are minimized. The skin of the neck will be lifted nearly down to the collarbone and across your entire neck.
Post-operational course
During the first few days after the operation, it is necessary to sleep strictly on your back so as to prevent swelling on one side or, as the case may be, larger post-operational bruises.
The speed of the healing is individual. Swellings and bruises clear up over 14 days. After the operation places with decreased sensitivity can occur on the skin of the neck. If the operation is performed with the double chin liposuction then either a plaster cast or a special bandage will be necessary in the post-operational period.
A bandage will be placed underneath your chin and an elastic bandage is wrapped around your neck and head. It is important that you continue to wear the elastic garment for at least 2 weeks.
Weight reduction is recommended before surgery itself, not after the operation. after a few days, the bandages are removed, and after 3 weeks you can go back to your everyday activities. Over the next several months, as the healing process occurs, the soft suppleness of the neck skin will return. You are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the Sun for at least 3 months after treatment.
